Keyword tracking and map scans

Run a map scan (local rankings on a 5 × 5 grid)

See how a business ranks on Google Maps at 25 points around its location, with map scan limits by plan.

Updated Oct 23, 2026

A map scan checks Google Maps rankings for one keyword at 25 points on a 5 × 5 grid around the business.

Before you start

The scan needs the position of the business on the map. Connect the client’s Google Business Profile, and the scan uses that location. See Connect Search Console, Google Analytics or Business Profile.

To scan a second location, add it as Second location (optional) on the client’s Settings tab: open Clients, pick the client and go to Settings.

Steps

  1. Open Keyword tracking › Map scans. There is also a Map scans tab inside each project.
  2. Pick the Client.
  3. Enter the Keyword, for example plumber near me.
  4. Pick the Location: the main address or the second location.
  5. Click Run scan.

Read the result

  • Average rank across the 25 points
  • Top 3 points: how many of the 25 points rank in the top 3
  • In top 20: how many of the 25 points rank in the top 20

Past scans are listed in Scan history on Map scans.

Limits by plan

Limits depend on your plan. See the current limits on the pricing page and in Plans and prices. Trial limits are in How the 14-day free trial works.

Each scan uses one scan. The count resets on your billing date. Older (legacy) plans don’t include map scans.

If something goes wrong

  • “This client has no second location. Add it on the client page first.” Open Clients, pick the client and add Second location (optional) on the Settings tab.
  • “Add the map position (latitude and longitude) of this address first” Connect the client’s Google Business Profile on Business Profile. See Connect Google data.

Common questions

How many map scans do I get?

Every plan includes map scans each month; the number depends on your plan (see the pricing page). The free trial includes 1.
