Locations and devices: how tracked keywords are counted

Each keyword is counted once per location and once per device. Desktop and mobile count as two tracked keywords.

Updated Oct 23, 2026

Your plan limit counts tracked keywords, not just keywords.

Tracked keywords = keywords × locations × devices

Each device and each location is a separate Google check.

Examples

  • 5 keywords, 1 location, Desktop: 5 tracked keywords.
  • 5 keywords, 1 location, Both (desktop and mobile): 10 tracked keywords.
  • 50 keywords, 2 locations, Both: 200 tracked keywords.

The project page in Keyword tracking shows the sum, for example “25 keywords × 2 devices = 50 tracked”.

Add locations

The number of locations is part of your package.

  1. Open Billing & plan.
  2. In Build your package, under Keyword tracking, set Locations.
  3. Click Review changes and confirm.

The number of locations you can add depends on your plan. See the pricing page.

Your keyword limit is (included keywords + extra keywords) × locations. Only the tracked keywords above your plan’s included keywords are billed. See Daily updates and extra keyword pricing.
